DOMINIC POIRIER

Né à Montréal en 1986, Dominic est un artiste pluridisciplinaire. Son exploration artistique s’étend du dessin à la peinture en passant par la sculpture. Sa curiosité esthétique le pousse à une constante recherche du minimal dans un langage percutant et réduit à l’essentiel. Minutieux de nature, Dominic magnifie le détail afin d’attirer le regard sur la simplicité.

 

Son corpus est une étude sur la répétition d’une ligne tracée à main levée. En se rapportant au trait précédent, chaque segment est corrigé afin d’atteindre un idéal rectiligne. Le fil vertical, positionné instinctivement, transperce la feuille, matérialisant ainsi le coup de crayon. Ce fil mesure exactement la longueur du vide entre la fin du trait qui s’y rattache et la marge. L’œuvre devient comme un paragraphe, un texte abstrait, laissant place à la créativité du spectateur qui peut y lire l’histoire qui l’inspire. 

 

 

 

Dominic is a multidisciplinary artist born in Montreal in 1986. His artistic exploration embraces drawing, painting and sculpture. His aesthetic curiosity drives him in a constant search for the minimal in a powerful, stripped-down language. Meticulous by nature, Dominic magnifies detail to draw attention to its simplicity.

 

His work is a study of repetitive lines drawn freehand. Each stroke builds on the previous one, each segment moving closer to a rectilinear ideal. The vertical thread, inserted intuitively, pierces the sheet as a materialization of the pencil stroke. The thread is exactly the same length as the empty space from the end of line to the edge of the page. The artwork becomes like a signature, an abstract text, giving the viewer the creative space and inspiration to read his or her own story into the piece.
